Stool test

Post by Clyde »

Hi,

After 2 failed triple therapies I've tried bismuth monotherapy with Rabeprazole with 14 days duration.

Bismuth subcitrate 240 mg qid
Rabeprazole 20 mg bid

3 weeks after discontinuing medications I did a stool test and the test result was negative.

Should I wait for more than 3 weeks or this time is enough to get reliable result?

Some labs note that Bismuth compounds should not be taken 2 weeks prior to the test, while others 4 weeks prior to the test. Which one is correct?

2 weeks is good enough. But in general, the longer you wait, the better chance for more accurate result.

It all depends on the bacteria load. If there is not enough bacteria, then you'll get a false negative result. So antibiotics, PPI, bismuth, some herbs, may reduce the H. pylori load. So try avoid them before the test.

So, I took bee products and some essential oils a few days before the test. Should I discontinue these products for 2 weeks before the retest? Would that be enough to get accurate result?

We did some experiment on essential oil recently and found some anti-H. pylori effect. So it's probably a good idea to stop essential oil for 2 weeks before the testing.

I'm going to retest tommorow via stool test.

5 weeks since stopped Bismuth and PPI
4 weeks since stopped Pylopass probiotic
2 weeks since stopped some essential oil

Is this enough to get accurate result?

Thank You, the test came back negative today. I have 2 negative stool tests in the previous two weeks. But I still have some acidity problems, occasionally burning sensation.

That's great news!
It's normal to have some symptoms persist after H. pylori eradication. At least you know it wont get worse.
Now you can focus on the healing. Take PPI or H2 blocker if you think you need it.
