Is gastropothy the same as gastritis?

I had a biopsy and tested negative for pylori but my symptoms are continuing. The biopsy results are as follows. Doesnt mention gastritis but does gastropothy. Is this the same thing?

STOMACH, ANTRUM, BIOPSY:

- ANTRAL MUCOSA WITH MILD CHEMICAL/REACTIVE GASTROPATHY.
Note: A special stain (Alcian Blue/PAS) shows no evidence of intestinal metaplasia. A separate special
stain (Giemsa) shows no evidence of Helicobacter pylori organisms.

I just want to say thank you for this great forum. I found a solution here on helico.com for my issue.

I think most importantly is that there is no metaplasia and no H. pylori.

It's common to have a bit of inflammation. Usually they should be labeled as non-active gastritis, meaning the inflammation is retreating.

Gastropathy (spelling corrected) means a vague abnormality not specific for anything. Perhaps increased spacing of cells (which would be oedema - swelling etc.) caused by any kind of chemical insult. Strong alcohol, or NSAID's medications could cause this. Also some white cells might be present in excess but not enough for calling a "gastritis". Read this link. My concept is that something is burning or stinging the stomach lining in a very superficial way. Eevon bile reflux into the stomach from duodenum can be implicated. Its not carcinogenic and would be expected to heal in a few days if the insult was taken away. Perhaps medication which coats the stomach could help. Sucralfate, gefarnate, even Pepto-Bismol might help, but don't take this chronically. Read this link I found https://www.pathologyoutlines.com/topic ... mical.html. 8-)

Ive gone on PPIS but my symptoms are worsening. Bloating/belching and acid reflux. Most foods are causing it - even "safe foods" like bananas and sweet potatos.
I tested negative biopsy wise and breath test for pylori.
Do these symptoms sound like pylori? Im in so much pain.

H. pylori has probably made your stomach hyper sensitive to food. Since endoscopy shows no other abnormality, hopefully you'll gradually become better.

since each H. pylori test is over 90% accurate. Two negatives are close to true negative.

make sure no one living under the same roof has H. pylori. encourage them to get rid of it if they have H. pylori even if they have no symptoms. Dont wait till you have symptoms. Some symptoms may be permanent even getting rid of H. pylori.

Hi barjammar and Helico_expert

I feel my stomach are hyper sensitive to food since I had HP gastritis, in particular to acidic, sweet and animal protein food. I had triple therapy 11 months ago and stool test and biopsy (2 months ago) showed HP negative. My food now is still restricted, almost vegan, because the endoscope 2months ago showed my stomach still had scattered inflammation.

My first gastroscopy before the treatment (11 months ago) showed "diffused mild inflammation characterised by erythema and granularity in entire stomach". Apart from inflammation and HP, the biopsy showed no other abnormality. My second gastroscopy 2 months ago showed "scattered mild inflammation characterised by adherent blood, congestion and erythema". I quite worry about the ‘adherent blood’ and ‘congestion’ in the second endoscope. My specialist didn't explain anything apart from a letter telling me no helicobacter was found from the biopsy. In your opinion, do you think the ‘adherent blood’ and ‘congestion’ indicate the inflammation is getting worse? Many thanks.
