H. Pylori testing after use of Suprep

Hello,

I recently had a colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) after taking Suprep (sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate and magnesium sulfate).

Three polyps were removed while biopsies from the antrum and duodenum taken.

When I asked the doctor about testing for H. Pylori, he said that would be done but it was very rare to have positive results.

All tests have come back negative for H. Pylori.

Questions:

1. Can Suprep interfere with testing for H. Pylori?

2. As I understand it, gastritis and esophagitis are normally associated with either H. Pylori or (over)use of NSAIDs. If I do not take NSAIDs and H. Pylori is rarely found does this situation conform to your understanding of how things work?

Thanks for your time.

Suprep should be fine. wont give you false negative result. if you want to be absolutely sure, you can do a blood test. A negative result would mean you have no H. pylori.

gastritis and esophagitis are actually caused by inflammation. Why is it inflamed? it could be H. pylori, NSAIDs, self immunity, other factors.

have you had H. pylori before?
did the doctor ask for histology?

Never diagnosed with H. pylori.

Paperwork shows:
- Tissue exam by pathologist
- Immunohistochemistry initial ant

I got here by having a low blood platelet reading, which has been the case [fluctuating a bit] for about 10 years.

Through reading I found that getting rid of Pylori can result in normal platelets. When I mentioned that to the gastro doc before the procedure he said that he didn't know about that.

So I have been trying to educate myself before a meeting w/him on the 25th.

Thanks for the information & Best
