Quick Poll: Please Comment w/ Number of Weeks You Waited Post-Therapy Before Repeating Urea Breath Test

Quick Poll: How many weeks post-therapy (i.e. PPIs/bismuth/antibiotics) did you wait before repeating the H. Pylori urea breath test (UBT) to confirmation eradication?

I'm unable to get a positive H. Pylori UBT follow-up result though active infection symptoms persist after numerous rounds of treatment have failed. I've waited 5 weeks post-therapy, I'm feeling terrible every day and still no luck!

I need a positive UBT result in order to convince my GI specialist to prescribe another round of treatment so any advice you can offer will be much appreciated.

Thank you!

what is your breath test value?
can you do fecal antigen test?
otherwise, can you do endoscopy - pH measure, CLOtest, biopsy culture, histology - H. pylori strain

also, can consider serology test to measure anti-HP antibody every three months.

My GI specialist's medical assistant is in the process of requesting the H. Pylori UBT DPM data from Quest Diagnostics. I should have it by the end of next week and will share it with you here.

I just received a lab order for the H. Pylori stool antigen test and will complete it at Quest Diagnostics tomorrow.

Upper endoscopy is still on my list of follow-up test options, but I'm waiting to get it done again until either my UBT or stool antigen test result comes back positive per my GI specialist's advice.

What value does knowing the H. Pylori antibody levels in my blood provide for my ongoing testing and treatment?

if your antibody concentration is going down gradually throughout the year, then it's a sign of not having H. pylori.

if your antibody concentration is constantly high or higher throughout the year, then it's a sign of still being infected with H. pylori

Would breath and stool be still the preferred testing method?

yes, breath/stool test is always the preferred method for non-invasive testing, especially after treatment.
