To Helico_expert, my C14 DPM value is 118

Breath tests are the most accurate way of detecting H.pylori without actually having an endoscopy (stomach examination). Breath tests are especially useful after treatment to make sure H.pylori is cured. Urea breath tests are known to be completely harmless. Either C14-urea or C13-urea tests are used. Read about them at the diagnosis section at http://www.helico.com/diag_breath.html where a diagram can be found. C14-urea breath tests use a radioactive tracer but such a tiny amount that it can be used safely at any age. It is a 15 minute test, convenient and inexpensive. The C13-urea test uses a stable isotope of carbon which is also harmless but requires two breath samples and takes about 30 minutes. Both tests have accuracy greater than 90%.

yea.. that's absolute great news!

actually your previous breath test is quite borderline. perhaps there is some background bacteria digesting the urea pill.

anyway, very happy for your current breath test result.

Thank you!
This time I repeat the therapy that I used last time. It is Rabeprazole+Levofloxacin+Amoxycillin for 10 days. I hope the negative is durable. And I will repeat UBT in the next year.

Hi Helico_expert,

I have a question on this subject.

So, I had a UBT result in Nov 2015, with a baseline line of <2.1, and I was recorded a 0.7.

After 2 months, I redid the UBT, but with a different lab, and the result was 1.6 with a baseline of 2.5.

Both using C13 breathe test.

It got me wondering if this means the bacteria is re-populating when a marker increases?.
I read through this thread, and it explains that it could be an environmental influence, and body of that day.

Was wondering if you could provide me some insights on such results.
Thanks again.

you are right about the baseline can be different each time. Too many factors can affect the baseline, which include the control used by the operator of the measuring device. Nevertheless, because the measurement is mostly quantitative, not qualitative, you shouldnt be too worried about the actual number. All you need to know is you are either positive, or negative, or borderline.
