Finished 3rd round of antibiotics and 2 1/2 weeks in acid reflux/heartburn is back worse than ever!! Thought I could try and reduce ppi but in fact going to have to increase as have this discomfort all day long!!! Is this normal to have that acid feeling all day even with ppi. Currently on 40 mg a day but going to have to contact dr about increasing as the only time I feel normal is when I’m eating or drinking. Otherwise feel fine, but this reflux is driving me mad!!!

here is the tips..

multiple dose PPI is better than single dose. for example, 20mg twice a day is better than 40mg once a day. Some people metabolize the PPI very quickly in the body, so it is better to have multiple dose to keep the active ingredient up in the blood.

then, as mentioned, some people has higher metabolic rate to the PPI. So you should try out other brand if this particular brand that you taking is not very useful. We particularly like rabeprazole as it last longer in the body.

finally, make sure you are free of H. pylori. maybe you can switch to H2 blocker for 2-3 weeks, get a breath test done to confirm the HP eradication, then go back to PPI if necessary.

Have a feeling it wont be negative as reflux is so constant, can’t imagine it would be this bad if i was cured, mind you other than the burning in my throat and mucas I feel good. Taking pepto bismol which is helping a little. Tried contacting dr today but have to wait till tomorrow to see what she says. Think I’m due a test in the next week or so.

Would like to remind you that PPI and pepto bismol can affect the breath test and give false negative result.

So, if you want to confirm the infection, you will need to ask your dr about switching your PPI to ranitidine for a couple of weeks.

Last time I got tested I was still on ppi and still tested positive, that was with stool test. Went off then for breath test for the third test it was still positive… I think ranitidine is off the market at the minute, so not sure what they would give me…. Phoned dr today, said she would speak to consultant and come back to me… at this rate I just do t know what they will suggest next!

So consultant is referring me for getting a camera down, I’m very anxious about it… worried they will discover something more sinister… yet I know I need some answers….

If you are young, no family history, then most likely you'll be fine. The specialist just want to be sure and get a base line of your current condition.

All the best and keep us posted with your condition.

44yr old male here. Last year April 2020 I started having really bad burning feeling in my stomach. So I went to see a gastro doctor who put me on ppi and pepto pills. It made it worse so I saw him again and he had me double up on the ppi and no relief. I became proactive and spent hours online and mayoclinic web page kept taking me to hpylori. Went and saw another gi and he did a breath test came back positive. Put me on antibiotics..still positive..another triple treatment with biopsy and now negative and been negative.

Although negative I was experiencing other stomach issues so over the months I would get routine breath test that showed negative. Ct scan ultra sound nothing. I tried organic celery juice changed my diet and no relief. I felt that my stomach isnt accepting the change. I read that hpylori eradication can cause acid to change. So Im convinced my acid level is too high or too low and I know that when I took acid reducers like alka seltzer and pepid I would get constipation..excessive belching and stomach upset.

I went online and wanted to see what would make my acid level increase and organic apple cider vinegar is what was recommended. This cured it 100%. Im convinced that after cure from hpylori my stomach acid level was off.

I feel your pain and Ive tried stress managment. Its frustrating not knowing what you have going on in your stomach but know something is not right. Im pretty surprised that we assume right away that we have too much acid in our stomach. As you age your stomach acids lower. For those going through hpylori symptoms I would consider your stomach acid ph level is off.

Youtube dr berg stomach acid. He explains how to know if you have too much or too low acid.
