I am also considering famotidine. Does it have the same effect as Omeprazole?

How many mg did you take to replace say 40mg of Omeprazole?

 Is famotidine as strong as a ppi and better or longer lasting than Gaviscon or similar antacid tablets which for me only helps for an hour or so.

Famotidine are not as strong as PPI but stronger than gasvicon.

Famotidine doesnt last very long in your body. That's why you can continue to take it until the night before breath test.

I take omeprazole in the morning but my late afternoon i find the effect has subsided.

Would i need to take Famotidine 40mg once a day or twice to have a similar effect ?

perhaps you can try other PPIs such as rabeprazole.

famotidine is more fast acting. So you can take it 30 min before meal.

Does DGL influence the HP test result of endoscope? I will have endoscope in 3 weeks time. I will stop omeprazole 2 weeks before. I have been taking DGL every evening. Hope I can still take DGL before the test.

Famotidine is unlike omeprazole. Omeprazole had a more thorough inhibition of acid synthesis by blocking the pathways. Famotidine is like anti-histamine. So the effect from famotidine is quick and doesnt last very long. Whereas omeprazole will take time for the effect to kick in and last longer.

So you go ahead and take famotidine until the night before stool test.

in regards to DGL, it's like mastic gum. my guess is that it wont affect the endoscopy.

I read on a website that an optimum way to take omeprazole is taking it continuously for 7 days and then stop and then its effectiveness can last for about a month. Is it right?

I dont think the effectivess wont last that long. Some people have the gene that increase the metabolic rate of omeprazole, and so they dont last very long.

we dont like to use omeprazole because of that. So instead, we usually prescribe rabeprazole.
