H-Pylori After treatment issues

This forum has been my go to source for very helpful tips. Really helps a ton of people suffering from this complex problem.

My problems started with gastric pain in the stomach , severe hunger, bloating and constant burning sensation in my stomach all day, hunger issues in the middle of night & early morning, sleep disturbances with gastric pain.I have been diagnosed with h-pylori 6 months using stool test method. Took triple therapy (antibiotics,PPI and pepto) for 21 days and went thru hell to finish the course successfully and test negative after a month.

I felt better for few days and i started seeing few symptoms, particularly burning sensation in my stomach, hunger and gnawing pain. I did not do any PPI after treatment but met a Ayurvedic doctor and after looking into my symptoms he started me on Ayurvedic treatment for gastritis. I have been doing lot better compared to where i was before and immediately after h-pylori.

But the problem is if i eat well every 2-3 hrs, i do really well for like 10 days(95% normal) and then all of a sudden get this burning sensation(something like a Sour stomach) with constant gnawing pain back and it starts like a trigger which stays for like 3 -4 days, despite keeping the diet constant. I can literally feel something my stomach burning if i put pressure on my stomach like bending or squatting. I do not get gastric pain a lot but this constant burning sensation and hunger issues are taking toll on me. If i take pepcid for a day or 2 i feel lot better.

Major thing i noticed was, If i have good meal every 2.5 hrs i feel close to normal(90%). If i skip a meal or delays eating then the rest of day is all messed up with this sour stomach, with constant burning sensation. I see this sour stomach and hunger more in the early mornings.

1. Is this common even after 6 months of hpylori eradication ?
2. Is this really gastritis or something else?
3. I have been researching a lot and I feel like i am generating too much acid. Could these symptoms be due to too much acid? If so what are the long term effects of generating too much acid. Do you recommend anything ?
4. Do i still have h-pylori? This strikes me very frequently.

Really worried to get to my GP with all these COVID issues and appreciate your response and recommendations.

These symptoms are suggestive of duodenitis which is inflammation just past the pylorus usually associated with high acid secretion and a residual inflammation after eradication of H.pylori. Need to snack is a symptom common in people with duodenal ulcer perhaps actually related to the sensitive mucosa.
I recommend just take the Pepcid daily and try not to eat too much or you will stack on the weight.
Sucralfate coats the lining and can be tried if other actions don’t work.
Make 100% sure the H.pylori is cured, you should see a falling antibody titre and a negative breath test.
Bottom line... you probably are still a high acid secretor but it will improve with time.
If symptoms are progressively worse see a GI doc, and have a CT scan. In rare cases it can be something unrelated to H.pylori. 😎

Welcome to my world. Got eradicated by quadruple therapy 2,5 years ago.. After treatment stomach troubles persisted for a year and then slowly subsided. I was worried that I was not cured form the bug.. Did 2 endoscopy procedures, one with RUT, the other with biopsy, each one year apart.. Both negative. Aside from light reddening of stomach walls, nothing else.. After symptoms went away I had one year totally symptom free. Then symptoms - bloating, low grade constant pain / discomfort with some chest burn.. Dealt and deal with it by taking bismuth, ranitadine and when I ran out of ranitadine, which is now banned in Europe, for one, two weeks switch to PPIs, where esomeprazole is most effective for me and with less side effects. So, symptoms come and go, I've got accustomed to it. Of course, there is no comparison with severity at time before eradication.. But still symptomatic. And this thing you mentioning with necessity to have regular meals and avoid prolonged periods of empty stomach. Exactly the same. If I skip a meal or even have it delayed, it messes up my stomach for couple of days.. I resort to peppermint & chamomile tea and only if the discomfort / pain becomes too much, take PPI for couple days.. When I get off them I have to expect return of symptoms with greater severity for some days.. I also should expect stomach troubles in case I overeat or have a too heavy meal. So, it's constant on and off with some days and weeks ok, and then some not so good.. I quit drinking alcohol completely and discarded my cigars.. Hope it will help..

Have a few questions since I am getting the same symptoms, although the hunger part has subsided a bit but the burning pain/sensation persists.

I have had a constantly painful and discomforted belly my whole life dealing with severe Hypersensitive IBS-D to a point where I can no longer wear anything fitting or tight around my belly area but this is a new problem that has possibly arised after I shared food with spoon and plate with a female friend who was later diagnosed with Chronic gastritis and duodenal ulcer so I suspect she also had H pylori which I contracted from her.

Can H pylori spread by sharing food or a spoon with an infected person just for 3-4 bites?
Which strain of H pylori is the most dangerous of all ?
Can gastritis occur without any infection?

I actually answered some of your questions in your other post.

First, you need to understand that H. pylori doesnt live in the mouth. However, they can stay in the mouth if you dont brush your teeth in the morning.

In rural regions where most people doesnt brush their teeth, the prevalence of H. pylori is high.
In modern society where almost everyone brushes teeth, the prevalence of H. pylori is low.

We have seen married couples who never infect each other for decades.

It is rare for H. pylori to spread among adults nowadays as we all understand basic hygiene. We brush teeth, wash hands, and dont share food (like licking each other's spoon).

H. pylori cannot live outside human body. It dies quickly in high temperature food, salty food, spicy food, garlic, onion, onion, etc...
So it is very hard for H. pylori to survive in contaminated food.

So how do we get H. pylori?
usually we get H. pylori when we are young, when our parents (usually mother or nanny) fed us, they might have licked the spoon to test the temperature, grind the food, check for fish bones, etc... Most likely in the morning. During the long period (probably 1-2 years) of bad habit feeding, you only need one contamination, the child is forever infected.

This is not a common practice now in modern society. So H. pylori is disappearing in modern world.

You can also get it via kissing your infected partners. But we dont have evidence that it actually happens. I believe that if your partner brushed his teeth before kissing, then you wont catch H. pylori from him.

we have done one experiment where we checked for H. pylori in the mouth of a carrier. His saliva was positive before brushing teeth and negative after brushing teeth. Then we check his saliva again every 3 hrs for the whole day until night time. his saliva was always negative.
we repeat this experiment continuously for 14 days. Everyday is the same outcome. The only positive saliva is the morning one before brushing teeth.

ah.. good question. While this has not been tested. I would say anyone expose to H. pylori orally can get infected.
So I believe being hygienic orally yourself is not enough. Everyone under the same roof, should maintain good oral hygiene to prevent cross infection.

I mean after 3 months from starting NHS loading, but my loading was different from most as in 6 injections once a week, then 3 once a month to then on 3 monthly which I did for 5 years before adding myself and getting 2 monthly from NHS as in neurological issues identified by heamatologist and neurologist.

In the Middle of H-Pylori After treatment

I’m so happy I found this forum. Reading some of everyone’s experiences does give me more hope. I’m in the middle of the rough water right now but I will update everyone with my journey.

For many months now, maybe 6, I didn’t know what was going on with me. I felt the upper chess congestion and thought maybe It’s from the cold flu season. Then I thought maybe it’s from allergies. I would try to take mucinex to try and help now and then. I didn’t pay attention much to my slow weight lost. My husband is super healthy and I thought it’s because we been eating healthy and a little less. I’ve dropped 20 lbs. It was my niece that suggest that I take Prilosec and it actually helped. I’ve also been dealing with lower back pain. This has been for almost a year now so I don’t know if it is separate or not. The last week however, my back ache seem to be less pain.

On 08/24/20 I tested my stool for H-pylori and it came back positive.
The doctor gave me:
-40mg Omeprazole (20mg-morning/20mg-night)
-2000mg Amoxicillin (1000mg-morning/1000mg-night)
-Clarithromycin 1000mg (500mg-morning/500mg-night)

Today I’m on day 7 of taking the medicine. 5 days ago I started to journal my day to day. What I eat, when, and whenever I pee. I’m constantly feeling the need for water and peeing every hour. I’m 6ft and was at 180lbs 6 months ago and now 158lbs. I’m 40 now, and I haven’t been a this skinny since my teen. I was only aware of my suppressed appetite the last 5 days so I’m making a conscious effort now to eat more. I thought before my lack of energy was from anxiety and depression and my weight lost was me eating healthier. The last 5 days I noticed how hard it is for me to eat now that I’m paying attention, Especially the first meal. Every bite is a force. Breakfast for me the last 6 months has been oatmeal with honey and banana. During this time, i sometimes skip lunch and only eat dinner later with fish or chicken with vegetables stir fry and brown rice.

The last 5 days I try to make sure I put as much into me as possible. I’ve been having same breakfasts with the oatmeal honey banana, lunch varies from chicken soup to wraps. Each time I’m weak and have to fight through to get it in me. I snack with several bananas through out the day, sweet potatoes. I try to eat a small portion of kimchi each day along with a bottle of Kampucha probiotic drink and coconut and pedialyte. yesterday because I only had chicken soup for lunch, my energy was very low and anxiety super high. It took me a bit but I made myself finish a bowl of pasta around 7pm and then another small bowl Of pasta and some baked sweet potatoes at 9pm. Despite my effort to eat more the last 5 days, I still manage to loose 2 additional lbs. I’m sure it’s part anxiety and stress but the weakness from it all makes my anxiety that much higher, along with not knowing when I will get better. I’m only assuming but it scares me that I don’t know for sure or what to do to get my weight up. I ordered some protein shake and will squeeze that in tomorrow.

The good news however is that I have less push back with the acid reflux. Food seems to go down to my stomach as suppose to feeling top abdominal heavy before. I don’t have much problem once the food is in me. It’s just the eating it that I struggle with. I do feel a little nauseous in the morning sometimes and feel a taste of stomach bile but usually go away when I have food in me.

Half of this battle is mental for me as I already dealing with anxiety and depression. With my energy barely there I find myself resting in bed for the most part. My sleep is all over the place.

I have a video call appointment with my doctor on the 8th. A Nutrient specialist on 14th and Gastroenterologist on the 18th. This will be my first time seeing a specialist and tell them what I’m going through. I’m nervous, and part of my anxiety is what if they find something. My dad had colon cancer.

If anyone experiencing weight lost and have any suggestions to help gain please share.
