Triple therapy and PANIC

Afternoon,

Can anybody advise please.

Recently started triple therapy, amoxicillin, clarithromycin and lansoprazole. I also suffer with intermittent anxiety including panic attack’s etc.

I’ve been on the therapy for 6 and a half days now and feel dreadful. All my panic symptoms have flooded back to the point were I ended up in a&e. The doctors there said it wasn’t the therapy causing my symptoms, rather me panicking about it.

Has anyone else experienced similar? Is 6.5 days of the 7 enough as can’t take much more of this?

Thanks in advance. Great forum.

Steven

Hello Steven,

You are not the only one who had panick attacks. I did not have it as severe as you, but I was also fighting with panick attacks. They went away after some time.

PS: Also from my side a big thank you. This forum is really great.

Thanks for your reply.

What do you think is causing the panic we have/had? The antibiotics, the PPI or just our minds making that association?

I hope this triple therapy does the trick!

I think it's the constant worry that cause the panic attack. too much anticipated stress on things that may or may not happen.

Probably. I’ve noticed that issues with the digestive system has a lot of influence on the mood. Also, that the reason that you feel it constantly, you are permanently aware that something is not alright.

I tend to agree expert and pylaros, thank you kindly.

I finished the course anyway and felt ok. Then the GP informs me this morning that blood results from prior to therapy show my iron is a bit low which might indicate bleeding somewhere. Appointment with him in a couple of hours  .

H. pylori can lead to low iron. we have seen many cases where iron level increase after eradication of H. pylori.

I didn’t know that. You’re a font of knowledge, thank you.

Hello again.

I finished the antibiotics 3 weeks ago and have just cut down from 60mg to 30mg of Lansoprozole. Been on them 6 weeks in total.

Stomach feels better on the whole. Lost 8lbs. Early days.

I’m due for an endoscopy examination in the next 2 weeks which I haven’t had before. I asked GP if I should come off the PPI now so examination would show if HP is still present. He’s of the opinion that I should stay on them for a few more more weeks and just check the condition of my stomach first and have blood/breath test at a later date.

Thing is I think the PPI (or stress) is giving me an incredibly dry and sticking throat sensation. It’s like a sensation of not being able to breathe properly. Should I switch to Ranitidine, or even Gaviscon Advanced and stop a day or 2 before exam? Hopefully by then my throat will feel more lubricated and also I’ll know my HP status as well as my stomach condition.

Thank you.

you should stop PPI for at least 2 weeks before endoscopy. try talk to your doctor about switching to ranitidine. you can have ranitidine until the night before endoscopy.
