My 3rd attempt..fingers crossed.

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

My 3rd attempt..fingers crossed.

Post by Lesa »

Hi My name is Lesa and I am 43 years of age. A year ago I had some reflux issues and doctor decided an gastroscopy was in need. Thats when they found the Pylori.
We tried 2 lots of tripple therapy to no avail over the last nearly 12 months.
Tomorrow I start my Quadrouple therapy :( I can only hope this is the best perscription for me. My doctor was going to suggest a specialist however he thought this quadrouple medicine is what he would suggest before the next step, so we decided to try this first... well he did!

I am as of tomorrow( delay because they had to make up the Bizmuth here as we didnt have it in Aust) I am on .... the following>
2 tablets a day of Doxycyline Hydrochloride 100mg
1 tablet daily of Pantoprazole ec( pantoprazol sod sesqihydrate) 40mg
3 tablets of Metronide( Metronidazole) 400mg
1 daily of collodial bizmuth 120mg

What are my chances of this killing the Pylori once and forall?? I recently got an ulcer (pains in belly) and went on medication for that. Waited 5 weeks then had the breath test which was positive.
I hope i can get some help here... Its very hard to find correct information on Pylori. Is this medication my best chance now or should have i seen a specialist?

Thank you... Hope to hear from someone asap as I have to start this medication tomorrow morning.
Also...I am apparently allergic to Pencillin ( from childhood) and the doctor says there are no tests to prove otherwise? is this true...should I perhaps have a allergy test to penicilin now that Im at attempt no 3??

Thanks

Lesa

Here is a post for you - as I have been away. Firstly, I don't criticise other doctors' treatment plans. Nevertheless, there are treatments which have been proven to work and some which have not been proven. Secondly, there is a document on-line here somewhere which has recommended plans - search and keep reading. Thirdly, see an allergist and have yourself tested to find out of you are REALLY allergic to penicillin. Finally, weigh up the pro's and cons of more treatments. Are you high risk? or Low risk? It depends on your ethnicity and your family history and the findings of stomach biopsies. You need to become a helicobacter expert I guess.
Since at least 10% of people have resistant bacteria (and fail treatment the first time around) then, assuming 1 million people are treated in Western countries each year, then you have about 100,000 friends. You need to keep an eye on this forum and run a google search once per week with appropriate key words.
Finally, the DDW2010 web site has abstracts on-line next week (I will be at that meeting in USA). Search the abstracts to see if there are new treatments out.
