In UK- they gave me 7 days and I begged for 14 days of Metronizadole, Amoxicillin and Lansoprazole - is this enough?

I found out I had H-pylori a few days ago and quickly got put on treatment. They gave me:

- Lansoprazole 30mg twice a day (7 days)
- 14 Metronidazole 400 mg twice a day (7 days)
- Amoxicillin 1000mg twice a day (7 days).

I quickly read all the studies and terrified myself that 7 days wasn't enough so asked for another 7 from the gastro department at the hospital I was enrolled in. They gave me 7 days but said I should do 7 maybe 10 days at most. What do you think?

I am now also reading and googling that clarithromycin is more effective than metronidazole, is this true?

So if this is all the case, what do I do? Should I take 10 days, or 14 days, I also bought H-Pylori Fight which is a probiotic as well. What is the best way to go about this please from experience, just tell me - is the 14 days what I should do, and was it a mistake to be given Metronidazole over clarithromycin?

If this treatment does fail, what should I ask for next?

Also will taking the pro biotic give me a false negative if I continue after the anti-biotics - should I stop?

Hi. I was given 7 days treatment twice and it did not work for me. The 3rd time I went to a private Gastro specialist and got a 14 days treamenmt. That seems to have cleared H Pylori but the gastritis symptoms are still there.

Hi,

I am not sure why this post didnt pop up to me when you posted. Sorry for the late response.
In short, 14 days treatment is slightly better than 10 days and 10 days is slightly better than 7 days.

Standard therapy with metronidazole is as good as clarithromycin.

if you have tried both treatments and are still infected with H. pylori, you'll have to try the quadruple therapy.

Also, perhaps you can get everyone who lives under the same roof with you to get a breath test done too. This is to prevent reinfection.
