Hello, Experts:

I’m on day four of triple therapy. I’ve been asked to take these meds for 14 days:

Levofloxacin 500 mg once per day
Amoxicillin 1000 mg twice per day
Pantoprazole 40 mg twice per day

I had an endoscopy done where they performed a culture and sensitivity test and this was the treatment chosen. This will be my second attempt to eradicate. I don’t remember what I took the first time.

My questions are:

1. I have been experiencing quite a bit of nausea with these meds. Will this resolve or stay with me for the fourteen days?
2. How well does this triple therapy work?

you may be experiencing some side effect from the treatment. Continue the treatment if you think the side effect is tolerable. Talk to your doctor if you think you need to. He is responsible for your overall well being.

The treatment is very effective if it's according to the sensitivity testing. In addition, you have a good dose of PPI. However, if you can add bismuth to your treatment, that will boost the cure rate further.

Thank you for answering so quickly. What does bismuth do to boost? I’m assuming you mean Pepto Bismal?

There are many bismuth compound. Pepto bismol is one of them.

bismuth is a type of heavy metal and doesnt absorb well by our body. So it coats your digestive system and kill off microbes. Not only that H. pylori cannot become resistant to bismuth, bismuth can prevent C. diff, which is a common digestive disease after strong antibiotic treatment.

Just one more question. Given that I’m on day five of treatment, is it too late to start the bismuth? If I’m Contact my doctor tomorrow and she agrees, will it be too late to start?

not too late to start. if there are some survival that is becoming resistant to your antibiotics, they will be killed off by the additional bismuth, before they grow up in numbers.

Just an update. I finally did a urea breath test after my treatment a few months ago and today, I found out that I’m negative for HP! I’m so glad!
