Still looking for answers

Post by Maria »

I will write my story, as I am still trying to make sense of it.
Until November 2019 I barely had any health issues. I am 46 and fit. Sometimes I felt bloated but not a big deal.In November 2019 I got to Emergency with excruciating abdomen pain. I was having a small bowel obstruction. It got solved in 2-3 days with conservative methods, no surgery. No cause was found. I passed multiple tests, petscan, CT scan, endoscopy and colonoscopy. Nothing was found, except for Pylori. The doctor said this can't cause obstruction.

Since then nothing was the same. I have frequent episodes of pain and big bloating almost daily. The pain is mostly in the right, up or middle abdomen.

I started the quadrupple therapy but had breathing issues and stopped after 7 days. I will have my breath test in a month to see if I was lucky to eradicate it, but I don't believe so. The pain and bloating, after diminishing a bit after treatment, are now back. I will try other treatment probably.

My question, Expert, is: is there any possible connection between my small bowel obstruction in November, and H Pylori ?

Thank you!

Interesting case.

In general, H. pylori only cause problem in the stomach as it can only colonise in the stomach.
Some researchers believes that the inflammation factors that is causing inflammation in the stomach may flow to other body parts, triggering inflammation else where.

So, the actual question you are asking is, will inflammation cause bowel obstruction? honestly I dont know.
is other bacterial the culprit of your bowel obstruction? maybe. and they may be killed by the strong antibiotics you had and your problem may be solved even without killing H. pylori. That is if your bowel obstruction is caused by another unknown pathogen.

Thank you Expert for your response.

After my interrupted treatment after 7 days (quadruple with Metronidazol) I am experiencing severe bloating. I eat a sandwich and I feel like I ate a whole town. I also have night pain in the abdomen: it wakes me up in the night, generalized pain in abdomen, like burning and feeling of hunger, plus dizziness. On endoscopy they didn't find any ulcer.
Are these regular symptoms of Pylori?
While I wait for the breath test in a month is there something I can take that doesn't interfere with the breath test, like Bismuth?

Thanks a lot for all the support you are giving here, to me and everybody else!

H. pylori is associated with all sorts of gastric diseases.
to be more accurate, it is the inflammation (caused by H. pylori) that leads to all the symptoms.
So when H. pylori is just eradicated, you will need to give time for the inflammation to go away.

to get an accurate breath test result, you will need to avoid PPI, antibiotics, bismuth and anything that will affect your acid level and bacterial load. The breath test is relying on two things. 1. the low pH of your stomach, and 2. the bacterial load.
