Hi There,

My daughter last week had a blood test for H. Pylori after I requested one (12 months ago I myself was diagnosed after an endoscopy and successfully treated). There were 2 parts to the blood test. One was for past infection (which was positive) and another one was to see if she has a present infection which we are still awaiting the result.

I thought that as the one for past infection is positive, then the one for a present infection is going to be positive as she has never been treated for it.

Also, she suffers a lot of stomach aches, nausea, constipation and has acid reflux and occasionally she vomits.

If it turns out she has H. Pylori what kind of treatment is recommended for her as she is only 9 yrs old. I'm wondering if a pediatric gastroenterologist would have much experience with this as I don't think this is common.

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your advice.

It would be new to me if the blood test can tell present infection. Not sure how is it possible.

Anyway, it is always not advisable to treat children, unless the child is really suffer from the infection. Your pediatric gastroenterologist will be able to judge and weight the risk between taking heavy antibiotics and the symptoms.
