Hello all, thank you for this discussion board and the wealth of the information available regarding this bug.
I am a 35 yearold male who has started experiencing strange issues about 2 weeks ago where my stool would be mushy and yellow. I have not been sick for years and have not taken antibiotics for many years so I became worried.
My stomach started making very loud gurgling noises, especially after I eat. TMI: In the morning I would go to the toilet and have one mushy yellowish stool followed by another even looser but not quiet watery stool about 2 hours later and then I'm fine for the rest of day, with minor weak stomach feeling generally until the afternoon. Then the rest of the day I am pretty fine.
In the first week, I had pressure in my bladder with a constant urge to urinate but that stopped after about 2 or 3 days. I thought it was a UTI so I got urine test but it came back negative.
I had some pain in the abdomen and back but its very mild and random. Also, I've had GERD for years and it flares up randomly also, generally after drinking lots of Soda or Alcohol, but I stopped alcohol long time ago. I have been drinking loads of diet soda like Pepsi Max daily for years.
My wife is a nurse and she said I should get tested for H Pylori as my grandfather (had bleeding ulcers) in law, grandmother in law and mother in law all had H Pylori about 2 months ago and got treated for it. My father also had it about 2 years ago and got treated for bleeding ulcer.
Anyways, I did the Urea Breath Test and my result is 173 (under 50 is negative, 50 to 200 questionable? and 200+ is positive) but in the report it states that I am "Borderline Positive" despite being under 200.
My first doctor prescribed me Nexium HP7 and I went and purchased it but have not started taking it as I would rather avoid antibiotics is possible.
The second doctor and my prefered doctor said not to treat it as its not concretely positive.
I thought I would address this issue by asking for an opinion from experts on this board as I feel they have much more knowledge then the GPs. Interestingly, on my Breath Test report it actually states to visit "www.helio.com" for more info.
My concern is that I am going on a 5 week trip to third world countries in 2 weeks and am wondering what my best course of action is. Could the infection get much worse in that time frame if I leave it untreated? Or am I better off treating it right now on the 7 day antibiotic and PPI course?
Any advice would be highly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
