Allergic reactions

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Allergic reactions

Post by daowebe »

My son was recently diagnosed with a pylori infection. While I do not question the fact that he has this infection, the fact that it is being considered the cause of his extreme allergic reactions is somewhat worrisome. He has been experiencing extreme swelling of his lips, tong and throat. If this is the cause than I am grateful for the intuitive find, however, I'm unclear on how we are to ensure that we should not be looking for other causes of these reactions. Any advice would be useful.

Hi, do you mean your son is allergic to the medication to get rid of H. pylori? if so, he should stop taking the medication and visit the doctor for alternative. I don't think H. pylori will give such reaction. Any other food he has taken?

Re: Allergic reactions - could it be Hp

Post by barjammar »

Your son has angioedema by the sounds of it. I noted from a Google Search that H.pylori was a rare (unproven) cause - so the test was more of a 'screen' I expect. If Hp is present then treat it. I suspect that H.pylori would make the stomach permeable to food antigens which then trigger the skin reactions. Anyway - its just a theory. Your specialist would know more about the problem than me I expect. Here is a nice link to start your reading: http://allergynotes.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... cause.html
