Hello. Can someone who’s been through this therapy tell me what I can expect my wife’s side effects to be? She’s 44 and she just got diagnosed from a stool sample. They are giving her clarithromycin 500mg, amoxicillin 500mg, metronidazole 500mg (1 tab pro bud) omeprazole each 1 tablet two times a day. Already with her first dose she seemed loopy and out of it. What should I look out for with her side effects? What are some things I can do to help her through this. She has just got over having covid but the symptoms weren’t too bad. Is there a risk with just getting over that? Any info would greatly be appreciated thanks!

They are all very common antibiotics. She might have metalic taste in the mouth and diarrhea.
Everyone experience the side effect differently.
If the side effect is tolerable, please continue the tablets. If she stopped the treatment prematurely, H. pylori may gain resistance and she will have to take even stronger antibiotics that comes with stronger side effect.

Nevertheless, if she is having severe side effect like vomiting, dizziness, and rashes, she should stop immediately and go back to her doctor.

Thank you for your response. Prior to being diagnosed with H. Pylori she was having pain under her rib cage on her right side. Now that she is on the antibiotics she says the pain is stronger now there. Any idea what is going on? Are the two connected? Thanks!

many people actually mentioned about it in the forum. It's common for H. pylori patients to have the pain just under the rib cage. The pain is most probably due to inflammation and as H. pylori is eradicated, the inflammation should gradually subside, and she should feel better.

Once again thank you so much for the response. She is now Vomitted once and she can’t sleep. The doctor told her the antibiotics have nothing to do with her not being able to sleep and that taking something like Tylenol pm would be ok to take. She is taking probiotics as well. What would your thoughts be on that?

vomit can be considered as serious side effect. Do constantly report to the doctor about it. if it happens again, perhaps should change to another type of antibiotic.

Thank you. Now my wife is complaining of pain in her legs and in particular one spot above her calf. She has just gotten over covid and not doing much activity for about a month. Should she worry about blood clots from all the antibiotics? I see no redness sweeping or hot to the touch however.

Although it is rare for antibiotics to cause clot, I think she should get proper check up where the doctor can physically check her.
