Any advise regarding my blood test?

Blood tests (for antibody) are used to screen for H.pylori. They remain positive for many months after treatment so can only be used as the initial test. Urine antibody is a "pregnanacy style" urine test. Accuracy is slightly less than blood tests. A negative blood test is good evidence that Hp is NOT present. Use it to exclude the diagnosis (but no test is 100% perfect remember).

Any advise regarding my blood test?

Post by mr_zombie »

Couple years ago I suspected h pylori infection and did stool, breath and blood tests. All came back negative. So I left that idea, but my sympthoms did not get better since that time.
Recently I found expanded blood panel with various h pylori specific antigens at some lab and decided to test.
All came back negative, except Ureb P66 antigen (elevated IGG and IGA) and HSP p57 (suspected elevated IGG).
Any ideas what that means and should I consider h pylori infection? I did not have much success googling these antigens.

Description of the antigens from the lab's website:
Ureb P66 - heavy subunit of urease, causes cross-reactivity with other bacteria containing urease
HSP p57 - heat shock protein homologue, nonspecific

stool test, breath test and blood test, each of them has accuracy of 90%.
If you have negative results from all of them, then your false negative rate is pretty low, especially for blood test.

Your latest specific antigen test suggest that you have antibody for 2 proteins out of thousands.. probably mean that you had exposure to them previously. Perhaps H. pylori tried to colonise in your body but failed. Perhaps your immune system is good and prevented their colonisation via targeting these two proteins.
