Re: H. Pylori incidence in California

In California, Hp infection is high if you are an immigrant (from Mexico etc.) or lived in a poor neighborhood as a child. The NHANES study looks at Helicobacter from time to time, an early version is at this link: http://www.jstor.org/pss/30129666 The abstract is below but you can probably find a m...

Re: Multi-resistant H. pylori

Wow - you gave me all the information I needed. Firstly, note that very high doses of PPI (rabeprazole 20 mg tid) plus amoxycillin (1G tid) will have a cure rate of 60-70%. The antibiogram to penicillin is not very important - Hp is almost always suceptible. Since you are very limited in your coices...

Re: Urea breath test

This is good news - i.e. nothing terribly serious - and you are on the world's #1 treatment. After treatment have another breath test to prove cure then you should be cured (85% cure rate). Please post a follow-up note as you go through the process. Is there anyone in your family who also has Hp? 8-)

Re: Recommendations for other outstanding doctors?

At the moment I can't offer anything else. I would suggest a low residue diet which would be unlikely to cause any harm since cancer risk has been pretty much been ruled out. Also, a moderate dose of a PPI - say rabeprazole 20mg daily. See how that goes. This is a bit much to treat over the internet...

Re: Pre Existing Tinnitus

That seems a reasonable dose. I actually use rabeprazole 20 mg tid which is 3x the normal dose. 8-)

Re: Treatment at the Foundation? ..or in Boise Idaho?

The blood test for H.pylori is not affected by PPI treatment. However, antibodies remain for 1-2 years after treatment so blood tests are usually FALSE POSITIVE after successful treatment. Therefore always back up a positive test with a urea breath test (UBT) or stool antigen test. The nearest H.pyl...

Re: H pylori related to sore throat?

H.pylori has never been connected with sore throat. The highest level H.pylori can reach is probably C6 which is the upper end of the oesophagus where a 1-2 cm diameter piece of mucosa conatining acid secreting gastric tissue exists in 5% of people - (this is called a "sentinel patch" or "gastric he...

Re: Treatment at the Foundation?

A negative blood test makes Hp rather unlikely. A GI consultation is probably the way to go. Sounds like your family doctor is doing a reasonable job - mainly rule out metabolic problems and treat the GI symptoms for a while, then scale things up if that fails. If you DO go to a GI and have an endos...

Where do you live? I have uploaded a treatment paper for you. It is at: https://forums.helico.com/docs/200808%20stenstrom%20Hp%20Treatment.pdf Apart from that you would need to find a US expert. At UVA (my old stamping ground) there are several experts. Dr Richard Guerrant's lab can do culture and s...

Re: First treatment didn't work...

Hi, its too soon to say either way if the bug is cured now or not. My opinion is that significant side effects from antibiotics means that you are taking them (that's good!) and that they have reached high levels in your body (that is REALLY good!!). After finishing, take whatever helps and expect s...
